I went into town today. We went to the "planet hollywood" and than walked around and bought some things. It is interesting how an entire society plagued with apathy and addiction, will so quickly jump at a chance to earn a few bucks. These people just sit around and chew khat until they see an American, than they spring into action with more vigor than a small child at Disneyland. At the same time that I am dreading their presence and awful smell, I feel sorry for them because of their inability to see what they could be if they would just try. We can't help these people. They have to help themselves. We see their lives as poverty, so we try and help. They are happy to take advantage of our help yet, they will still accomplish nothing. If anything we are only slowing them down. The only way these people will advance themselves is if they become unhappy enough to do something about it. We are useless.
